So sorry, I don’t know who is telling you that any man is capable of rape and will use your attire as an excuse, but they’re using a small percentage as an example.

First off, I think it’s “funny joke haha” that you tagged this post with those words. Either this is a “joke” and you think you’re being “funny haha” (which, you aren’t) or you are ridiculous and terrible at making any sort of argument. So, shall we go piece by piece and uncover exactly how you are an insufferable moron?

This isn’t an argument. I can say the same thing about people like you, but that doesn’t make it true. You have no evidence to bake up a statement like this. It’s a gut-reaction attack, and all it serves is to make you sound like an emotionally-stunted thirteen year old.

Does that mean if you act dumb as shit, be prepared to be treated as such? I suppose I can concede that and that alone. However, whether or not one’s attire indicates a certain station, job or profession does not mean that makes it okay to treat them that way. For example, living in the East Village, I see guys dressed like homeless men all the time. Nah, they’re just hipsters, but does that make it okay for people to throw things at them or give them change? No. Your attire might indicate something but that does not make it okay for people to react in a certain way. 

If I come home and strip naked and my boyfriend comes in and takes me against my will, it’s still rape. It doesn’t matter that I was naked. It doesn’t matter that something, be it the way I looked or some fucked-up need for power, made him think that raping me was acceptable. Nobody is allowed to say, “You were asking for it because you were naked.” “He was your boyfriend, it doesn’t count.” Yes, it still counts and no, I wasn’t asking for it, because I should be free to act how I wish without fear of some other human being taking advantage of me. 

Dressing “like a whore” is a person’s choice, a preference. A woman should be able to wear whatever she wants without fear of somebody raping her, just like somebody should be able to drive whatever care they want without fear of somebody keying it. Unfortunately, we live in a society where people like you blame victims for a crime instead of looking straight at the perpetrator. 

A rapist has already thought about rape. A rapist does not suddenly turn into one when he sees a scantily-clad lady walking down the street. A rapist has thought of rape before, many times, and expresses it because of opportunity, not because of somebody’s dress.
